March 10th – April 4th
Berdoulat – 8 Margaret’s Buildings, Bath BA1 2LP
From its inception, Among the Pines has looked to show Japanese artists and makers within the UK. The beginning of Spring brings a new series of flower portraits by distinguished Japanese artist Satoko Inada, each finely etched and painted to create a visual language all of Inada’s own.
The exhibition introduces paintings by Parisian based Japanese artist Kyoko Dufaux. Her work explores Japanese folktales told within West African landscapes, inspired by Dufaux’s time living in West Africa. There she found the natural world evoked feelings and insight drawing parallels with the folktales that she could convey onto the canvas in a philosophical way.
New ceramic plates by Japanese multidisciplinary artist Takashi Tsushima, and recent tableware pieces by husband and wife ceramicists Mako and Naomichi Sato will be exhibited alongside. All five artists pay a tribute to Mother Nature through their work, and bring it forth in a beautiful, poetic, and timeless way.
